A LOT ON THE MIND: LIVING WITH ADDICTION

What does addiction have in common with a game of ring toss? Audience members learned the biological basis of addiction through a round of ring toss at this NYU Neuroscience Institute sponsored show featuring the NYC premiere of the Hollow Metropolis short, Platitudes. Following the film screening, audience members heard from the director of the film and the founder of Addiction Policy Forum.

A LOT ON THE MIND: MENTAL ILLNESS AND ART

At this special Taste of Science show of A Lot on the Mind, introduced us to the world of mental illness. Audience members learned the biological basis of mental wellness what can alter this through a game of Neurotransmitter Pong (beer pong with a twist!). Then Reyna shared with us her art and what it was like growing up as both an immigrant and a person with schizoaffective disorder.

A LOT ON THE MIND: PARKINSON'S, MOVEMENT, AND DANCE

During this special Brain Awareness Week show, audience members were introduced to the world of Parkinson's Disease by Dr. Andrew Feigin, heard the latest research in the field by Dr. Margaret Rice, were moved by a touching tribute to families with PD choreographed by Michael Sazonov, and finally heard from the fiery  Manny Torrijos about his struggle with his diagnosis. This event is sponsored by BraiNY

A LOT ON THE MIND: HUNTINGTON'S AND DANCE

This show is sponsored by BraiNY and Huntington's Disease Society of America. During the 90 minute show audience members learn the history of Huntington's disorder, the biological basis, and the symptoms. They then hear about research in physical therapy and participate in some exercises. The night closes with live dance performances by Justin Goldberg, a patient with HD, choreographed by Heidi Latsky Dance. This show was held at Caveat.

A LOT ON THE MIND: AUTISM

This show is sponsored by BraiNY and Spectrum magazine. During the 90 minute show, audience members learn the ins and outs of an autism diagnosis, clearing up controversial rumors. Audiences are then introduced to some of the newest tech on the rise for helping clinicians. Finally, the night ends with an art exhibition by the artist Ronaldo Byrd, who not only shared his beautiful paintings, but also his journey. This show was held at Caveat.

A LOT ON THE MIND: EPILEPSY

This show is sponsored by BraiNY and the Epilepsy Foundation. During the 90 minute show, the audience is introduced to the biological basis of epilepsy and seizures. Audience members participate in a hands-on, interactive first-aid workshop and learn the science behind the new "miracle drug" CBD. The night concludes with a poetry reading from the original works of Alyssa D'Amico. This show was held at Caveat.
